The Goyt Valley offers a serene and picturesque escape for nature lovers and guests staying at our property. There are a variety of routes to choose from into and within this stunning valley. The Valley can be accessed from Macclesfield Old Road or Bishops Lane to the west of Buxton, or if you are feeling adventurous, direct from the door through the enchanting Corbar woodlands and back via the Bishops Lane entrance and Cavendish Golf Course.
If a shorter adventure is on the agenda, the Fernilee Reservoir loop itself provides a great alternative. A circular path around the reservoir offers two distances: a 3-mile route if you cross the dam wall at the northern end, or a more extended 4-mile loop that meanders a little further down stream around the Northern tip. For those driving in, convenient parking is available either at the lay-by at the base of the hill after entering the Goyt or in the main car park. From here, a gentle descent will lead you to the beginning of the route around the reservoir.
The terrain around Fernilee is varied, yet accessible. One side offers a level and flat pathway as a former railway track and is ideal for those seeking an easy stroll with breathtaking views across the water. On the opposite bank, the woodland section of the route presents a slightly more adventurous challenge, complete with steps and bridges that navigate the woodland surroundings and views across the reservoir. The 3-mile circular loop is one of my favourite dog friendly routes and the beauty of Fernilee’s landscape will be sure to captivate and delight you.
